The WORST Book I Read This Year.

I know that the year is not even close to being over and I don't like to talk down on books because I can imagine how hard it is to write a book and also get it published but this book completely sucked in my opinion. I don't really know why I disliked it so much since it's a genre I'm usually interested in (thriller/suspense) and the premise looked very intriguing and overall appealing.

The book I'm talking about is Shut Your Eyes Tight by John Verdon. A friend of mine actually gave me this book as a gift (maybe on my birthday) and she told me she really liked this author and that she have read a lot of his books but not this one yet.. I still haven't asked her how she feels about this book but it goes to show that we all have different opinions so if you really love this book or this author good for you, it just wasn't a good match for me.

In the book we follow Mr. Gurney who is a retired detective from the NYC Police Department as he embarks on a new murder investigation. Since he's retired, he actually gets involved with the investigation when a family member of the victim hires him as private investigator because apparently the police is not doing a very good job.. And that's pretty much all you need to know before reading it.

Our main character is married with Madeleine and they live in a house in the suburbs. His wife is not very supportive of his work 'cause she finds it very dangerous and consuming. The whole aspect of their relationship really annoyed me. Gurney is portrayed like a man who neglects his wife and she is portrayed like pretty much a bitch who doesn't support her husband. Besides the fact that she asked him not to get involved with the investigation he ignores her and takes the job anyway.

As the investigation goes on the police and Gurney start finding out that there is more to the crime than just that one murder and as the book goes on they start to find out more and more. One thing that really bothered me in the investigation was that some things didn't feel real, like they wouldn't really happen in real life and I found it very hard to keep going since I didn't believe what I was reading and I thought it was quite exaggerated and kind of annoying.

All the murders and the crimes connected to the murders have sexual undertones. The author really explores the mind of sex criminals (especially young women) and I found that rather disturbing. I know that there are some really crazy people out there but I just didn't really buy that the reason behind all those crimes was sexual abuse, but then again I don't really know a whole lot about that..

I also didn't like some of the dialogues. The author would squeeze in some bad words for no reason at all and make everything seem really forced and unnatural. I'm not easily offended by these things but it just looked odd.

As for the things that I did like, there were not a lot of them. Like I said in the beginning, I really liked the whole premise of the book and I also like the end. I'm not gonna give out any spoilers but I really liked the way the author turned the story upside down and I totally did not see the end coming. I love being surprised with a story and that was my favorite part of the book.

So that's it for the review. I hope you enjoyed the post and if you haven't read this book I don't suggest picking it up. I was in doubt if I should write a review of a book that I didn't like but I hope this was helpful in case you were considering reading this book or something from this author.

If you'd like to keep up with the books I'm reading you can follow me on my GoodReads account so we can be reading buddies. I gave this book 2 out of 5 stars because in my opinion it really was that bad. I don't think I ever gave a book less than three starts but in this case I couldn't bring myself to rate it any higher.

Have you read this book ?
Do you think it's helpful to write reviews of books I didn't like ?
What are you currently reading ?

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Life Update: Exciting Things Are Happening.

This afternoon, as I was trying to figure out what today's post was going to be, I realized that it has been more than a month since I did my last Life Update and since I have a lot of things to tell you guys I thought this would be the perfect post for today.

First thing I'd like to share is about my graduation. If you follow me on Twitter you already know that I finished all of my classes and assignments but I still don't have my diploma because these things take some time to get ready. But my university finally scheduled a date for the official graduation, which is going to be in two weeks and the best part is that Sebastian is actually going to here for the date. YEY!

This brings me to my second update: Sebastian is COMING! And I could not be more excited about it. We haven't seen each other since February and we've been literally counting the days. Hopefully, this whole long distance situation will be over next here (or December) once he finally moves here for good but until then we're trying to make the best of it.

We also have a lot of weekend trips planned. We are visiting a couple of small cities around where I live and I love being a tourist in my own country. We're pretty obsessed with the beach and even though I live quite close to the beach we enjoy exploring different ones. Another good thing is that I'm not only gonna have my official photographer back but I'll also have a lot of cute places to shoot OOTD posts for the blog. YEY!

As for things I've been doing, I need to admit that I've not been doing a lot. I've been studying like crazy and trying to keep up with all the things that I need to read for my classes because while Sebastian is here we'll visiting different places and having fun so studying will not be priority.

I managed to watch the new (not so new now) Jurassic World movie and I LOVED IT. If you've watched this let me know on the comments your opinions. It was waaaaay better than what I was expecting and I loved the whole Dinosaurs meet Disney World concept. While I was growing up this was my favorite movie and it made want to be a paleontologist (is that what it's called?).. I even started to dress like the woman in the movie.

Another thing that I also squeezed in some to watch was Pretty Little Liars and O M G ! If you haven't watched it go watch it now. I'm not gonna give any spoilers but my mind was absolutely blown with the A revelation, seriously. There were so many feelings and emotions involved and although I'm excited to see how it all ends I also don't want it to end.

At first when I started watching this show I thought it was just another silly teenage show but it really grows on you. The whole "who is A mystery" hooked me and I'm obsessed with their wardrobe, whoever dresses them is doing an amazing job.

So I guess that's it. My life is kind of boring and I mainly wanted to share with you guys that my graduation is coming and my PLL feelings. I hope you all had an amazing week and if not at least enjoy the weekend.

Do you have any fun updates to share with us ?

Thanks so much for reading and I'll talk to you really soon.

Monthly Empties: August, 2015.

Today I'm sharing with you guys all the products I've finished this month so far. I decided to wait a little longer until the beginning of August to do this post simply because I still had a lot of products that were almost done and I knew I needed a couple extra days to get them completely empty.

Lately, I've been trying to really focus on using up my products (like really really focus) because of my upcoming trip to the US. I know for a fact that I'm gonna buy a lot of makeup products there so I really want to declutter everything and empty out my cabinets. I've also been considering starting out a "Disney Project Pan" until the date of my trip but I'm not really sure about that.. You let me know what you think about this in the comments.

Now, let's get to the empties!

Maybelline Define-A-Lash Mascara in Black.

You might remember some of these products from a Project 10 Pan that I started back in March but completely failed. I'm just going through those products now, 5 months later. But anyway, I really liked this mascara. I used it in combination with other mascaras but I think it did a great job at separating the lashes and getting rid off the "spider lash" look.

Would I repurchase? Yes.

Pupa Lipstick

I got this lipstick almost 4 years ago and from my experience lipsticks don't last that long so it, obviously, was already disgusting when I pulled it out this week. But from what I remember this was a good lipstick. It had a crazy long staying power and the color was quite beautiful, kind of like a blood/orangy read. I didn't get much use out of it which sucks and the smell was also not my favorite. Since I got it so many years ago they must probably have changed the formula but I would recommend getting it.

Would I repurchase? No.

Avon BB Cream in Natural Beige.

I loved this BB Cream so much that I think I'm going to open an exception on my "no-buy" just to get this product. I did a little review/comparison post with this BB Cream and the one from Garnier that everybody talks about. If you wanna see a more detailed review make sure to check out that post.

Would I repurchase? YES!

I feel like I have a bottle of Acetone in every empties post. I prefer Acetone instead of nail polish remover because I feel like it takes my nail polish faster and better. I don't have a problem with the fact that it dries my hands a little bit because I can always use some hand cream after I'm done with my nails. I also don't really care about the brand, I just buy the cheapest one I can find at the store.

Would I repurchase? Yes.

Avon Nail Expert Color Shield Top Coat.

This is one of my favorite top coats and I always have it with me. I usually switch up between this one and another one from a Brazilian brand that I also really love but I don't talk about it a lot since not everyone canget it easily. But if you're looking for a good top coat I highly suggest this one from Avon.

Would I repurchase? Already have a backup.
Find it here

Avon True Color Blush in Medium Rose.

Can I get a round of applause for finishing this blush? It took FOREVER. I honestly think I've had this blush for more than five years. Although I really liked the color and the formula, I was sick and tired of using this at the end and I'm gonna take a break from buying blushes for a while.

Would I repurchase? No.
Find it here

Nivea Care Bar Soap with Oatmeal.

I've been using the Nivea bar soaps for years now and I love them. I use them in the shower to wash my face when my skin is feeling dry. In my opinion this is better than most of the face washes out there and if you feel like your current face wash is making your face feel dry give this one a chance.

If you look for this product in another country you might find that the packaging looks a little different but I think that the product is still the same, they just change the packaging according to the country.

Would I repurchase? Yes.
Find it here.

Johnson's Baby Wipes.

I love baby wipes because they are so versatile. You can use them to clean up your counters, to spot clean your makeup brushes and I even use it to take off my makeup when I'm feeling lazy. I got through one of these every month.

Would I repurchase? Yes.
Find it here.

L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Repairing Conditioner.

This was an ok conditioner. I wouldn't run to the store to get a new one but I would buy it again if it was on sale or in case I needed a conditioner asap, know what I'm saying ? I literally cannot think of anything else to say about this product so I'm just gonna stop now.

Would I repurchase? Probably yes.
Find it here.

TRESemm√© Moisture Rich Conditioner.

I love all TRESemme products and this one was no different. I usually opt for shampoos and conditioner for straight hair or moisturizing ones like this just because I feel like they make may hair more smooth and manageable. This was a great everyday conditioner and I honestly would recommend it to anyone. I've been using this line for years and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon.

Would I repurchase? YES!

These are the products I've finished this month. I love writing empties posts because I feel so accomplished looking back at all the empty products. It's also good to see what are the things that are rotating in my collection.. The things that are actually being used and the ones that are going to waste, this way I can be a more conscious shopper and make sure that the money I spend on products is not going to waste.

What are some of the products you've finished lately ?
If you make videos or blog posts about empties or project pans please leave it in the comments so I go check it out and we can support each other.

Thanks so much for reading and I'll talk to you soon.

Links I'm Loving This Week.

Heeeello, everyone !

Today's post is going to be short and sweet but hopefully entertaining. Today is literally the busiest day of my week which is completely out of the ordinary since Fridays are usually my days off meaning that I don't have to go to class or anything. Although I'm kind of stressed and super busy today is going be super exciting because I'm going to a wedding !

I don't know about you guys but weddings are just so much fun for me. I love the whole celebration of love and I always end up crying even when I don't know the bride and the groom that well. And now you must be wondering: Why are you so busy if you don't even know the couple ?

I'll tell you why.. BECAUSE I'M DOING EVERYBODY'S MAKEUP. Seriously, you watch a couple of YouTube videos and all of a sudden your mom starts telling people you're super good with makeup and all those people start asking you to do their makeup. So my mom, my sister, my grandma, a friend of my sister and a friend of mine are coming over this afternoon so I can do their makeup before the wedding. And that's why I need to get this post up right now before they arrive.

Ok, so I've been rambling for three paragraphs already and now I'm gonna stop and we're gonna get into the cool stuff I found on the internet this week because that's why you're really here.

I've been trying to loose some weight lately, who hasn't right ? But I've been on and off diets and trying to exercise more often but I just get bored and end up giving up. But now, I'm trying a different approach. Whenever I feel bored of a certain workout or just don't feel like doing it, I change things up.

If you've been following me for a while you might remember that I used to talk about Blogilates all the time, and I still love her channel and her workouts but after doing it for so long, I got bored.

So, at the moment I've been doing a combination of running and after that I just go into Adriene's channel and find a good yoga exercise that looks like fun. I've been doing this for quite a while now and I LOVE HER WORKOUTS but I feel like I should warn you that yoga is quite harder than I thought it would be so if you're new to it (like me) don't feel bad if you can't do everything right

Nowadays the amount of hate you find on the internet is astounding and kind of sad so when I saw this video that Colleen Ballinger posted on her channel I just thought it was amazing and I had to share it here in case some of you haven't watched it yet. She makes a song out of her mean comments to send a message to haters and I loved it.

I know I know.. shameless self-promotion, but who really cares ?! Guys, I'm just linking this up over here because I've noticed that a lot of you already follow me on Twitter, Instagram and here on the blog as well but maybe you haven't noticed the we also have a Facebook Page for the blog. And I just thought we could get some love over there as well.. We currently have less than 20 likes or friends (I don't really know the correct term) and I just thought we could do better.

So if you have the time to "like" our page that would be awesome and will really help me to get the word word out and grow our little family a little more. Thank you in advance and if you found this annoying I'm sorry but it is what it is and if one day you create a blog or something along those lines I'm sure you'll understand and I'll be happy to show you some love and support as well.

And if you already follow our page let me know on the comments so I can personally give you a huge THANK YOU.

This website was one of my favorite finds this week (or even month). This is basically a traveling website like Tripadvisor but I think their "articles" a little more interesting and with more exciting and different stuff to do. As you guys already know if you've read my latest traveling post, WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY (yey!) on November and I know that it's a little far away but we're already looking for fun things to do and trying to do a little planning here and there.

The article that attracted me to this website was this one but you can find a bunch of other things there and obviously articles about other destinations. So if you're planning to travel somewhere I suggest you take a look over there and see if they have anything cool to offer that could maybe help you out.

Do you have any cool links to share with us this week ?

Thanks so much for stopping by and I'll talk to you soon.

Monthly Favorites: July, 2015.

I don't do Monthly Favorites very often simply because I don't usually have a lot of favorites. I don't change up my makeup/skincare products very often.. Actually, I don't change up anything that is my "favorite" very often. And that's one of my biggest pet peeves with bloggers and vloggers out there, the fact that every month they have new makeup favorites..

But this past month I did some changes here and there mostly because I finished watching my go-to TV show (so I HAD to find a new favorite). I don't really have makeup products this month because I've been doing my Everyday Makeup Routine everyday that I actually put on makeup so if you're interested in that you check out that post, but I warn you that it's kind of an old post and back then I wasn't the awesome blogger I am today.. Who am I kidding ?

Let's get to the favorites!

We FINALLY surrendered to the Netflix magic. I know we're probably the last people on Earth to get it but we were kind of hesitant because we still payed cable. But after getting Netflix my life has changed for the better, I'm not on my most productive game lately but I'm definitely happier. Me and my mom's saturday afternoon schedule consists on coffee, pajama pants and Netflix and we're not even ashamed to admit it.

Red Band Society.
Like I said before, I'm already all caught up with my favorite TV show EVER - Modern Family. So, I had to find something new to watch. I saw someone talking about Red Band Society on Twitter and decided to check it and I LOVED IT. It's a little morbid because the whole show centers around a group of teenagers who are in the hospital for different reasons.

But somehow, they made it work. It's also not very realistic because the hospital in the show looks more like a boarding school but it's still fun. If you're considering checking it out (which I think you should) just keep in mind that it's a very teenagery show. And by that I mean that there's a lot of teenage drama, and relationships and breakups but does deal with some more "real" subjects like cancer and other diseases. I'm not doing a great job at describing it but just watch the first chapter and see if you like it.

How To Get Things Done by David Allen.

I've read a lot of good books this past month but I really wanted to mention this one today 'cause it has been helping me a lot. I'm sure some of you might have noticed that I'm in a constantly talking about my struggle to find balance and to live a more organized life and since my boyfriend was already tired of hearing me complain about this he recommended this book and I really really loved it.

I haven't finished it already but since I'm in the last chapter I can honestly say that this book is a life saver. If you're expecting a magic trick to organize your life in a second this is not the book for you, but sometimes it's good to have "someone" tell you exactly (and I mean to the last detail) what to do and how long it's going to take for you to get your s#!t together.

The author share in the book his method for organizing not only your work life but your life in general. I didn't agree with 100% of the things that he said and I won't implement his method to the last detail in every expect of my life but I did take away some valuable lessons from the book. I changed somethings in my "organizing system" and I have to say that I'm experimenting way less anxiety and stress.

My Life Next Door.
I think the best word to describe this book is adorable. I'm not going to make a complete Book Review right now but I'd say that if you enjoy cute teenage romance you're gonna love "My Life Next Door". I'm sucker for any summer related books and this one was exactly what I needed at the moment after reading so many suspense/thriller books.

Running Everyday.
I'm proud to say that I've been running everyday. I started this new habit this month because I was feeling a little fat, I had gained 2 kilos and my clothes just were not fitting right on me. Besides loosing the extra weight (which is always a big plus), I've also been feeling more motivated and excited about life in general and it's good to have this "excuse" to live the house at night and get some quiet time for myself.

My Kindle.

I did all my reading this month, including stuff related to my classes, with the Kindle. This is seriously my favorite little gadget all year round but I decided to include it in July's favorite because I did a lot of reading this past month. I'm also thinking about doing a post only about what I have in my Kindle, like books, apps and other little things so if you guys are interested in that please let me know.. I might to do it anyway but it's good to know if you'd want to see it.

What were some of your favorites ?

Thanks so much for reading.
