Reading Slump // Currently Reading.

I feel it coming like a cold. The reading slump is the worst bug a reader can catch because if we got a cold that would just mean more time to stay in and read. I hate being on a reading slump, I've tried my usual remedies (you can check them out right here), but nothing seems to be working. So, I've decided to talk about the book I'm currently reading in the hopes of turning things around. I want to get excited about reading again!

I think I just burned myself out with all the reading I did in September. I read 8 books, one after the other, and I should have known.. Rookie mistake. I know I've already smashed my GoodReads reading challenge, but I've only read 50 books. I want to go for 70 or more this year. I think last year I read 77, so if I can get to 78, I'll be a happy reader. However, I feel like pushing myself and reading when I don't feel like it will only make things worst.. Maybe I just need a break! Anyway, these are the book I'm currently reading (or at least trying to!)

Asylum - Madeleine Roux // This book is scary. The cover is scary. Even the author's name is also a little scary, right?! I got it because it was scary,  actually. I wanted something to get me into Halloween and this book was on sale so I decided to to pick it up. While I was leaving the bookstore, I checked GoodReads and this doesn't have the best ratings, but the first few pages are ok. There are a lot of pictures, photographs and weird letter, all very scary. I think I'm going to enjoy this one. It's part of a trilogy so if I love it, there's more!

Laura Lamont's Life In Pictures - Emma Straub // I got this book last year and I'm only now getting to it. I picked it up at the Dollar Tree, so the price was a big sell point. However, the cover and the title also interested me. I don't think I've read anything like it. I'm only on the first chapter (because of the whole reading slump thing, you know..), but I have high hopes for it.

The Female Of The Species - Mindy McGinnis // Second attempt at reading this book, second time is a charm, right? I have no idea why I put this book aside in the first place, from what I remember I was really enjoying it. Now, I'm determined to finish it.

1984 - George Orwell // If you've been reading the blog for a while, you know I've been talking about reading this book for years. Seriously, I think I bought it in 2015. I don't know if this is the best time for me to start reading it (because of the whole reading slump thing, you know..), but I took it out of my shelf and there's no time like the present. I'm sure I'll gonna love it once I get into it. I've read the first two chapter and things are kinda slow, but they have to pick up soon, right? Everyone loves this book.

Those are the book I'm currently reading in the hopes of nipping the reading slump right in the bud. The bug hasn't settled yet, so I'm still reading a little bit every night. I think I'm gonna have to pull out the big guns and just get some audiobooks to hold me over. Let me know on the comments if you have any tips on how to get over a reading slump!
