5 Magical Tips For Loosing Weight During The Holidays.


Heeeello, everyone!


If you didn't catch the irony in the title, I'm sorry. I was just trying to be funny. There are no magical tips for weight loss. There's not a pill or a tea you can take that will do all the work for you. I really wish there was, I would be the first in line to get it. But, science is not there yet and we still need to workout and watch what we eat in order to loose weight. I know weight and diet are difficult topics to talk about, specially on the internet. So, just keep in mind that this entire post in based on my opinion and on things that I have experience myself. We're all different and maybe what works for you won't work for me. 

If you're reading this post, chances are you're struggling with loosing weight. First of all, I just want to say that there's nothing wrong with wanting to loose weight. Yes, you're perfect just the way you are. You can love your body and still want to work on it. And second of all, I'm not gonna talk about any special diet you should follow That's just too personal and it's not my place to tell you what you should and shouldn't eat. I just want to point out that there's not a miracle diet you can follow you drop thousands of pounds in one week. I know vegans say that if you're vegan you will loose weight no matter what, but that's just not true. At the end of the day, calories add up and make you gain weight - no matter where those calories are coming from. However, one thing I definitely would not recommend is counting calories - just make good choices! Anyway, I digress. I want to talk to you guys about what I've learned. 

ONE // Drink as much water as you can. 
If you want to loose weight, water has to become your new best friend. You need to drink it all day, everyday and as much as you can. Water is good for everything and it will help you in the process of loosing weight - and it's also good for your health and that whole living longer thing. I have a little glass bottle I take with me everywhere since it fits perfectly into my purse. And that's what I would recommend doing, make drinking water easy and fast.

If you need to get up and go to the kitchen or the drinking fountain every time, you're not gonna do it. So get a reusable bottle (it's also good for the environment) and drink your water! I don't have a set amount of liters I force myself to drink, I just do what feels good and what I can. 

TWO // Work out as often as you can. 
I said as often as you can because some people have jobs, health issues and other things that don't allow them to workout every single day. And you don't have to workout every single day to loose weight - it would definitely help and you would see results faster, but you don't have to do it. Again, do what feels good. I have a bad ankle, so I can't do super quick cardio and running for long periods of time is really hard. So, I mix it up. I go to spinning, I follow Youtube videos (just search "Body By Simone workouts" and thank me later), I walk and I lift weights.. There's no excuse not to work out and get your body moving.  

THREE // Realize that you're going to eat and workout for a lifetime. 
This is one of the things that really stuck with me in my weight loss journey. When I heard someone say this, something clicked in my mind and I thought "that's it, we're doing this''. As soon as you realize that you'll have to eat and workout for your entire life, you'll see things in a new light. Crash diets and crazy workout plans don't work in the long run and I believe we're all trying to be healthy in the long run, right? 

You need to find a happy balance. You need to find recipes you enjoy eating and workouts you enjoy doing because, hopefully, you will be doing this for a very long time. It needs to become a part of your life. For example, if you love hamburgers, try making a healthier version you enjoy eating. Nobody can survive on only salads and tofu for 90 years without going insane. I need my chocolate, I need my fries and I need my wine, but I don't need to have all of it in one day.

FOUR // Set reachable goals.
Setting goals is not something that works for me in general. Saying things like "I'll lose 5 pounds this month" has never worked for me and I don't think it works for a lot of people. Instead, I set goals like going to the gym four times a week or completing my entire workout every time I go. These little things help me to keep myself in check and motivated. Every time I reach a certain goal I set myself on the gym, it gets me pumped to keep coming back. It's not all about the weight (at least not for me), it's also about being comfortable in my own body and feeling good about myself.

FIVE // Don't give up. 
Weight loss is a journey and taking care of your body is something you'll have to do for the rest of your life. You're body is not a machine, it retains liquid, it bloats, it gets sore and tired and injured. You need to accept that and you need to roll with the punches. You can't let a sprain ankle be the end of your journey. You need to take a breather, chill and heal. And then it's back to the gym. Life is unpredictable and things happen. I know it sounds stupid, but you need to be ready for the fact that surprised will come up and you'll have to find a way to stay on track regardless. 


I guess that's it for today, guys! I hope you enjoy this post and I hope it helps you to stay on track. I've battled with my weight for as long as I can remember and it's been a real roller coaster, but now I feel like I'm in a good place. I'm not starving myself and I've realized that quick fixes are not going to help me. You need to do the work to see results. I'm happy and I feel like I'm doing the right thing. 

I wanted to write this post during the holiday season because I feel like this is a time when people struggle a lot with this. Food is a big part of family gatherings and sometimes it's hard to resist eating cake. You just need to realize that indulging and an occasional cookie or piece of cake is different than eating cake for breakfast and having desert every single day. It's all about balance. Even if you're skinny, you need to have a healthy relationship with food.
